Import of users for IMAP authentication

Howdy folks.

I'm in the midst of moving our Moodle server out of the IT department (due to some gremlins they could never figure out and our teachers couldn't cope with anymore, including myself) and into our office, on a dedicated small server. We don't get a lot of traffic, so it should be fine.

I have successfully done a full migration/upgrade of the old server, database and all, but there is so much junk in it and it's so full of abandoned courses, that I'd really like to just start fresh with a new install. We have few enough courses to move over, and enough student labor to move them via backup/restore, that that is no problem, but I'm not sure what to do with the users.

Our users log in with their IMAP login information, Moodle checks with the IMAP server, gets the go-ahead, and lets them in, after which they can create a profile. Moodle doesn't know their passwords, if I understand it correctly.

If I export our users to a CSV and upload to the new server, though, I'm required to provide a password, and I suspect this will make them all manual accounts. I would really like students to keep using the profiles they already have, and I foresee chaos and disaster if they have to reset their passwords...

Is there any clean way out of this, where I can transfer their accounts, but keep the IMAP authentication intact?
